Our trip to Palestine

Created by julia 9 years ago
I met Bernard when he was part of a trip to Palestine a few years ago. Meeting him was a big part of that enormous experience. I remember him pointing out that Darcy and I were playing chess with the board the wrong way round (I never knew there was a right way!) and I remember him smoking a shisha pipe with us in the evening, and making us promise not to tell Vera that he'd had a night with a hookah/hooker. Bernard seems to have lived enough life for 3 or 4 lifetimes, with enough stories to fill many books. He was a wonderful man who I think of often. I didn't know him well enough, I only met him towards the end of his life, and he'll never have known just how inspirational he was to me, in how to live a full life and to make a difference wherever you can. And I know that I'm just one of many, many people Bernard met and inspired throughout his life. He leaves an enormous impact on all of us.
