Grandad has always been interested and engaged in political struggles in the world and he held very strong sympathies with the Palestinian struggle. In support of his granddaughter, Jo, who was organising study tours to the West Bank, Grandad came with. He was 86 years old! I was also with him throughout. It was a physically demanding and emotionally difficult visit. Yet Grandad remained committed and steadfast in his approach to the tour and enjoyed tremendously meeting Palestinian people and talking with them. I have a few hilarious memories of him cracking jokes in a Jerusalem cafe, puffing on a shisha and entertaining all who were with him. I know he left a lasting impression on all those who came with us on this tour.
