I was lucky enough to spend time with Bernard at various events and social occasions in London, Birkenhead, Manchester and Glasgow. He had a real warmth about him, instantly making people feel at ease and showing a keen interest in them. He had a real gift for story telling, jokes, and... ballroom dancing! He and Vera visited Glasgow with their dancing troop in the late 1990s, and had lunch at my family home. He provided great entertainment in the form of story telling about his life, and invited us to go to the hotel to watch the dancing that evening. I went with Emma, and on arrival we found him floating across the dance floor with Vera at his side, completely in his element and showing up all the other dancers.
